Successful injury recovery starts with a safe workplace

What is a workplace assessment?

A workplace assessment allows us to understand what the current capacity is of the injured worker, and what the workplace can offer in the way of suitable duties while they are recovering at work. This process also helps to identify how an injury may have occurred in the first place.

Why are they so vital?

The clear benefit of a workplace assessment is the awareness it provides. It gives a clearer understanding of the injured worker’s current condition, the nature of the workplace injury, and what barriers a worker may face on their road to recovering at work.

A workplace assessment allows for the development of a suitable duties plan that details how duties and working hours will change over time as a worker recovers, as well as taking into consideration medical advice.

What is involved in a workplace assessment?

A workplace assessment involves an overview of the injured worker’s symptoms and their working capacity. It also involves assessing their work environment and working conditions to understand what the workplace can accommodate in the way of suitable duties.

It is important to assess both the physical and psychological demands of the roles and tasks being performed. From this assessment, we can recommend and facilitate a safe and successful return to work plan for an injured employee. This includes:

  • Identifying suitable duties and ensuring they meet the individual needs and return to work goals of both the employer and employee
  • Outlining how an injured employee will safely ease back into the working environment
  • Setting realistic time frames for a successful return to work process for the employee

Regular and open communication between all parties involved in the injury recovery journey to keep goals on track
